Most Expensive Supercars

Supercars come in a range of prices, starting from several hundred thousand euros for the entry-level, let’s say budget, supercars, and several million for the high-end one. But we also have to have in mind the fact that there are many antique supercars on the market which can fetch astonishingly high prices! Here we will present you some modern day supercars, as well as the iconic models of the past, all of them with a high price tag.

Historic high-priced supercars

The car with the highest price ever recorded is the famous Ferrari 250 GTO from 1962. This car was bought several years ago for an astonishing 38 million dollars, and this is the highest price ever paid for a car. The second place goes to another Ferrari, the 290 MM Scaglietti Spider, sold for just above 28 million $. The third place, you guessed it, also belongs to a Ferrari. In fact, 7 of the top 10 places in the most expensive cars ever sold category are reserved for Ferrari cars.

The only non-Ferrari models in the list are much newer models like the 2005 Maybach Exelero, priced at 8 mil.$ and 2011 Mercedes SLR Mclaren 999. The Ferrari models from the 60’s and 70’s can reach incredible sums at car auctions. Other antique supercars that can reach similar prices are the Jaguar XJ13 from 1966 or rare examples of the 1960’s Corvettes or Ford GT40 models. The Aston Martins from the sixties are also very sought after.

Modern day supercars with hefty price tags

Most expensive supercars, occasionally called hypercars, will require you to make a big dent in your bank account and to cash out millions of dollars. For example, the Rolls Royce Hyperion, specially designed by Pininfarina, is a unique car, considered and artistic expression, and it is valued at 6 million cars. The aforementioned Maybach Exelero is a special car, also unique, developed by Maybach at the request of Fulda tires, and was sold for 8 million dollars. When we talk about production cars, the first places usually go to traditional manufacturers like Lamborghini or Ferrari, and some newcomers, like Koennigsegg or Pagani. For example, the most expensive Lamborghini cars are the Veneno and the Reventon, and Ferrari’s LaFerrari is priced well above 1.5 million dollars. Of course, specialized and custom made models of these cars will cost even more, and usually reach 4 or 5 million dollars. But these models are specially prepared for demanding buyers.

Owning an expensive supercar

Be aware that owning a supercar does not only mean having to splash out a ton of cash to buy yourself the privilege to drive a beauty like a Ferrari. Supercars come with super costs. It means you will have to pay enormous amounts of money on maintenance and running costs. So, if you wish to enjoy your new Lamborghini Aventador, be prepared for a lot of hidden costs besides the price tag.

The number of rich people in the world is growing, especially in countries like China and India, and they usually have a good taste in cars, so the supercar market is ever growing in demand.
