How Supercar Brands Market Themselves (To Men)

This blog is all about cars, supercars and nothing else! But today I’m writing about something I’m finding increasingly common. It revolves around marketing directly to men rather than women. It’s something that has been done for years, but its becoming more and more common with the introduction of in-app marketing, social media ads taking over and a move away from direct mail or email campaigns. So how do they do this? Well I’ll start by putting a really interesting infographic created by a branding agency in London that outlines what Men want vs what women want when it comes to purchasing their dream car.

Supercar Branding men vs women

This shows that men want speed, power and more expensive cars than women. This translates directly into how car companies market to both men and women. If you think about it, have you ever thought, this car looks really good yet we can’t afford it. Or I don’t really like this car because it doesn’t have XYZ features. That’s a failure by the marketing department to attract the correct type of customer. Whereas when you think – This car is perfect, then that’s when you have been successfully hooked to a particular product.

If you take a look at the Dodge advert below you can see all of the tweaks they made to target men rather than women for this. It seems obvious when you are actively looking for the item, but when you aren’t it can simply just blend in and you don’t realise you are being targeted or avoided.

That’s it for this post. I hope you found it pretty interesting as I know I have during my research. And remember to not be naive when purchasing a vehicle, purchase what you need and don’t go above your budget for the sake of speed!
